Local Attractions

Bambra Lodge is situated 18 Km from Hobart on a waterfront property at Roches Beach in Lauderdale. The beach forms part of Frederick Henry Bay and is ideal for children. At low tide, Bambra Reef which is only 100 metres away from the house, is noted for its variety of shellfish and marine species and can be explored at leisure. As well as enjoying walks along the beach, there is the option of taking a cliff top path with stunning views across the bay.

It is a great destination for those seeking a restful beach holiday or wanting a base to explore Hobart and south east Tasmania.

Lauderdale

Lauderdale originated as a seaside holiday village, but is now populated by permanent residents who are attracted by being able to enjoy a relaxed life style and great local beaches , while still being only 20 minutes from Hobart and 15 minutes from the airport.  The township is bordered by the Ralphs Bay Conservation Area  which is part of the Derwent River estuary on one side and Frederick Henry Bay on the other.

Shops

Lauderdale has shops selling supermarket items, high quality fresh fruit and vegetables, an excellent deli, butcher shops, a newsagent and post office, hairdressers, bakery, church, tavern, restaurants, petrol stations, take away food shops and a chemist.  The nearest Woolworths supermarket is in the Hobart suburb of Howrah, 10 minutes drive away and Eastlands Shopping Centre is a further 5 minutes drive towards Hobart.

Water Activities

Lauderdale Beach and Ralphs  Bay are ideal locations for windsurfing and water skiing.  Clifton Beach which is Hobart’s closest surfing beach is only 12 minutes away and other beaches and picnic spots within an easy drive include the seaside villages of Cremorne, South Arm and Opossum Bay.  The closest boat launching spots are at Lauderdale, Ralph’s Bay and Cremorne.  Fishing is a popular pastime in the local area and a feed of flathead can usually be caught in Frederick Henry Bay.

Birdwatching

Ralph’s Bay Conservation Area has an array of water birds.  At the northern end of Clifton beach there are Mutton Bird rookeries which are worth a visit at dusk between November and March to see the birds returning from a day at sea to feed their chicks.

Other Tourist Destinations

From Bambra Lodge, it is only 20 minutes drive to historic Richmond and the Coal River Valley wineries.  Port Arthur is 90 minutes away and the east coast can be reached in an hour.
